Exploring the Hilo area and sunset on Maunakea

Aloha from Crispy Cream on Maui. You’ve gotta love the traveller’s life. I’ve only been on the road for just over 2 weeks and my plans had to be changed multiple times. The reason I’m sitting at Crispy Creme today, writing a blog post, is that I missed my bus 2 days ago in Kona. I wrote about it in my last post. It was too hard to get back to Hilo, so I rebooked my flight and I arrived in Maui earlier than planned. My car wasn’t available when I arrived at the car company, so now I’m passing time at Crispy Cream. But let’s get to the real…

The story about a missed bus and a forgotten bag

This is a little story about how I almost lost my bag. I’m still on the Big Island. Yesterday was Christmas eve. I had spent most of the day with some friends. We had driven from Hilo which is on the east side of the island to Kona on the west side. The plan was to take a bus back at night. The Big Island is 4,028 mi² and it takes about 5h to drive around it. I had 2 days. There is also a road that goes right through the center, but I decided against it because I wanted to see as much as possible. The island is actually quite amazing. You have 2 sides. The Kona side and the Hilo side. My work-away was on the Hilo side. That side sees a lot more rain because of the…

    My first work-away experience

Aloha from Hawaii. I have spent about 2 weeks in Hawaii now. I’m on the Island of Hawaii or also nicknamed the big islands. It is the biggest of 5 major islands. I decided to do a work-away while here. For people that don’t know what that is, it is a work placement where you exchange a couple of hours of work a day for free accomodation and often food. This is one of my strategies of making this trip last longer. Hawaii is not one of the cheapest places to go, so by me doing a work-away I get to experience local Hawaiian life and get to stay for a longer…
